Monkey on a Pine Tree, Wooden Inlay with a Round Frame, by Nishimura Soichiro [Meiji Era]
Although this work might look like an ink drawing, it is actually a wooden inlay. The pattern has been carved onto a wooden plate, and small wooden pieces with different colors have been placed onto the carved surface. This is a valuable masterpiece by Nishimura Soichiro (1846–1914), a master craftsman from Tottori Prefecture whose works were exhibited at the Paris Exhibition.
