[1st Floor, Eastside] Special Exhibition Room of the Ikeda Feudal Domain, Tottori
Histories and Renowned Treasures of the Tottori Feudal Domain and the Ikeda Family, Tottori, an Established Samurai Family with Roots from Ikeda Mitsunaka, a Great-Grandson of Tokugawa Ieyasu
From the mid- to late Edo Period, Tottori was ruled by the Ikeda family of Tottori. The first lord of the Tottori Feudal Domain was Ikeda Mitsunaka. He was a great-grandson of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate during the Edo Period. The Ikeda family was prestigious enough to be allowed to use not only the swallowtail crest, which had been used by the family for generations, but also the trefoil hollyhock crest of the Tokugawa family. Exhibited in this room are many art works connected with Tottori, such as gorgeous items bearing their crests; excellent swords and other goods created by swordsmiths and painters of the feudal domain; historical materials from Tottori as a sword center well known among connoisseurs; and arms connected to warlords who ruled Tottori before the Edo Period.
